The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has actually stated that the deregistration of 22 political celebrations stays legitimate.
Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the commissions chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, made this understood while talking to press reporters on Tuesday. He stated the deregistration of the celebrations remained in line with the law and of the arrangement of the Nigerian Constitution.
Oyekanmi kept in mind that the judgement provided by a five-man panel led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Dongban-Mensem, to reverse the action was malfunctioning. He included thatthere was no court order stopping it from deregistering the celebrations since the time it was carried out in February 2020.
He stated, In February when the commission deregistered 74 political celebrations, there was just one limiting order versus INEC in favour of the Action Peoples Celebration which had actually submitted a fit to stop the Commission from deregistering it.
That was why the APP was excused from the deregistration procedure.
To be sure, I am not familiar with any other limiting order versus the commission since that time (February 2020).
